Finally back on track

I've finally had my computer back from repair, and GOD how fantastic it is to write again. I don't think I need to worry about getting stuck for the next few days, to put it that way. After one hour I have now completed 1750 words, and I'll call it quits for the evening. I need some sleep too!

Anyway, I'm back and have got some updates for later.

it's still not working.

my computer is so bad now i can't even switch it on. (i'm on my phone now). It is currently with a computer expert-a friend of mine who has taken it home to see if he can repair it. Crossing my fingers so i'll have it back tomorrow.

A writers worst nightmare... literally!

So here's a riddle for you:

Q:Qhat's a writers worst nightmare?
A: Their computer crashing every minute!

I bet it's not that difficult to imagine how annoyed I am now. Every time my computer has been on for some minutes, it crashes and locks itself, so it's impossible to navigate on it. Anything I have written would therefor be lost. So at the moment I've got 5000 words bursting out of my fingertips, waiting to be written like a cork on the champagne bottle =(

Luckily I've got my dictaphone, so I'm surviving on that for now.

Can't write now, in case it crashes again.

Not today...

The past three days have been quite crappy. Thursday I was constantly occupied by something. I usually write at night, but Thursday night my eldest decided to throw an hours tantrum when she went to bed. And after a tantrum I always feel like the worlds worst mum and I just can't write.

Yesterday was the same, and today I asked for advice from a mothers forum I go to. They all said let her cry, so she didn't fall asleep untill 10 pm, so that was that evening.

And today she fell asleep after another hourly tantrum, but I forced myself to write some words anyway. I didn't make it to more than 500 words I was so distracted that I was having trouble finding the words. About ever 40th word got stuck on my tongue. Easy words even, like the synonym for stomach which is torso - which I know, but couldn't remember. And then on days like this I keep thinking in Norwegian, because that's an easy language (you barely have any synonyms in Norwegian) and I'm the worst translater. So what I'm trying to say is that the book of Thesaurus and Google translater were my best and worst friends today.

Hoping for a more productive day tomorrow.

One book FINISHED!

When I was about 12 years old I wrote a childrens book, which I just put to one side. Since then it's just been lying there, untill I rediscovered it again. Reading through it I could see it needed editing, and my mother who is a librarian in a childrens library helped me out a little with the moral. The book is now finished, and a friend of mine who is an artist is helping me with the illustrations. Hopefully by next week it will be sent out to be reviewed by publishers!

I still won't be popping the champagne though, I'm saving that for my novel!

50K/50 days - day three

Yesterday I didn't manage to write, so today I put the children to bed early and wrote off 2100 words.

My word count is 3003 words since day 1 (I'm not deliberately stopping at 1000 words, it just happens to be like that).

My word count in total for the novel is at this point 32315 words!

Yay me! =)

Btw: Since I was a liiitle tired writing now, I know there will be some editing tomorrow.

Easier done than said...

I thought it would be easier said than done to write 1000 words a day, but all I needed was 20 minutes and I was finished. I wrote about 1/4 of what I usually would write when I first get going, but here are some key points:

*Usually I get going about once a week
*This is my first day, so if I can do this every day this week, well that's when I can brag a little about it.
*I didn't realise how little effort it took, so hopefully this will motivate me to write more and often!

And just to let you know I have now finished off a childrens book, and a friend has sent me the first sketches of the illustrations.

One down....

50 000 words in 50 days

Yeah, so I just signed up for this challenge by sarah darlington over at http://www.sarahdarlington.com/

I'm not sure if it was a totally smart idea, as these next few weeks are going to be heavy. I've got Max beginning in his kindergarten, a driving course (for a mini truck) and job searching to do. My brother is getting married in August, I'm hopefully starting to work and train, and well... my life is basically chaotic and stressful enough already.

But I still have lots of spear time, and 1000 words is only about 30 minutes of writing, or less... depends on how motivated I am.

So today is my first day. I'm a little behind as I've not yet finished the editing of the story. But hopefully I'll have 1000 new words written buy the time I go to pick up Sophie in kindergarten.

Ps: Guitar is getting a little easier, but my fingertips aren't too happy with all the playing, so I'm taking a day break.

The guitar thing

I told you a few days ago that I'd record my attempt at playing on the guitar.

It's still in the rough. Look at it as a first draft for a book. It needs some editing, but in a few weeks I hope I've nailed it!

The book and other dreams

For those of you who have read my first entry, you will have read that this blog isn't just about my dream of writing a book, but it's also about other dreams.

I've always liked music, and I've always liked playing instruments. At the moment I can play the piano enough to be able to sing a little on the side (but no concerts). I've been trying to learn how to play the guitar. This is a little more tricky for me. A friend a while back had two guitars, and one day he handed me one and said "do this". Then he played something on his guitar, and I copied him. That's really the only way I've been taught how to play. I only had two "lessons" with him, and I've tried since then to play, but I just can't seem to find that rhythm when I'm playing.

My brother who is getting married in August, has asked me to perform a song in the wedding. Not particularily with a guitar, but I thought "why not". So a couple of weeks back I found the tabs for Extremes "More Than Words", and after my husband fell in love with the song, we thought it would be a good idea to try it out. So the past 6 weeks I have been trying to learn this song. Playing tabs is new to me, as I know a little bit of chords before, you know - the basic ones. So this evening or tomorrow I was thinking I'd record myself playing the song and post it on youtube, then in another few weeks I'll do it again and see if there is any progress, and if it will do for a wedding. If not, I have a very expensive karaoke system which will save me =)

Book is coming along fine. I've taken a break now at chapter 10 to read through everything I have written so far, fill in some lose threads and edit parts which don't sound right (those logical mistakes as I like to call them). Unfortunately I haven't heard back from the boy who was going to read it, maybe he's been busy - I don't know, and the specialist in amnesy hasn't replied either. So I'll have to do without them.

Yesterday, just out of nowhere, an idea for a new book popped in to my head. I'm not sure what genre it is, it was sort of like a picture. So inspired by J.Kaye http://365-days-of-novel-writing.blogspot.com/2010/05/365-days-of-novel-writing-day-one_18.html I have now written down the book ideas (I think it's her version of story idea) I've been carrying around for a while - in total four book ideas, plus the three I'm writing now. One is a love story, one a fantasy - sci fi - love story, another is a book about a womans fight to survive lost love, and the last one is the one I just mentioned, which I'm guessing is a crime. All but the first one are for young adults, so I'm guessing that's my "way".

Now I've got one little rascal who has stolen my book of Thesaurus to get my attention, so I'd better see to that!
